The Westmount Self-Paced Programme has been in place since 1990, and continues to provide a unique, innovative programme delivery to its ever-increasing student population. As a System School, and a programme of choice, Westmount attracts students who strive to develop goal-setting, effective time management, and independent learning skills in a self-paced learning environment.
Continuing to provide a strong and innovative programme is key to staff, students and parents. We continue our work and commitment to ensuring that we remain true to the philosophy of our self-paced, self-directed mode of delivery.
In 2006-2007, Westmount piloted the addition of several flex days to provide greater opportunities for students to self direct their learning, developed Conference sites which provide course information and resources for students, and provided training and professional development on the use of such technology as SmartBoards and podcasting to enhance the delivery and monitoring of our program.
In September 2007, Westmount opened the Sport Academy. In partnership with McMaster University, students who participate in this programme receive support for both their academic and athletic endeavors. We have also opened Studio B – a cutting edge training room and created a Court Sports program in partnership with Mohawk College ,The Arts continue to shine at Westmount, with a vibrant music and drama programs. 2008 also brought the Homework Club in partnership with Community and Continuing Education, the opening of our paperless English classroom and an increased use of technology throughout the school.
Westmount has been the recipient of 2 Hamilton-Wentworth District School Board Profiling Excellence Awards. The first was in recognition of our delivery model of education, and the second in recognition of the Sport Academy.
