Gordon Price is a JK-8 School that officially opened on May 13, 1992. Located on the West Mountain to the west of Upper Paradise and to the north of Stone Church Rd., the school property borders on beautiful Shawinigan Park and backs onto St. Vincent de Paul Elementary School.

The school day begins at 8:45 and ends at 3:05 and students enjoy receiving instruction based on the Balanced Day concept. Currently there are 470 students attending Gordon Price School. With students coming from more than 30 countries around the world and speaking more than 33 languages daily at home other than English, Gordon Price School is culturally very diverse. These demographics and the rich multicultural / multi-ethnic composition of classes, facilitate teaching and learning from one another.

Being a community oriented school, the students at Gordon Price have actively participated in a number of community activities and events that build spirit and engage students in purposeful and meaningful ways outside the classroom. Some of the initiatives that students regularly participate in are :

• Neighbour to Neighbour food and clothing campaigns
• The Heart and Stroke Foundation
• The Canadian Cancer Foundation
• SPCA initiatives
• Salvation Army campaigns
• Hamilton Bulldogs fundraising projects for schools
• School wide fundraising initiatives to purchase and install an electronic scoreboard for the school

The school has a very strong partnership with the Umbrella Family Daycare Children’s Center. The Center operates a before and after school program for regular school age children.

Being a Pathways facility, a number of students with physical disabilities access Gordon Price School each day. In addition to being wheelchair accessible, the school has a mechanical change table to accommodate the needs of specific individual students.

Staff at Gordon Price School provide an outstanding curriculum program for all students. With an emphasis on Literacy and Numeracy, teachers’ focus on student achievement data to enrich the learning environment for children in their care.

The commitment of staff extends well beyond the classroom and into support and intervention programs that are provided outside the instructional day to students. Reading and Math Clubs provide students with opportunities to receive scaffolds of support to improve performance and opportunities for other students to be further challenge the limits of their abilities.

The Student Leadership Council provides leadership and team building activities to individual students wishing to impact positively on the school environment. In addition to these activities building school spirit, they serve to align and link the school to broader community projects and community initiatives.
