School Council
A group of parents and staff mandated by the school board to review school policy and curriculum.
Home & School Association
A body of parents and concerned citizens independent of the school board who strive to make the school a community and enhance the student experience through events and raising funds for particular needs not covered by the school budget. There are a number of events that need many helping hands from students and parents.
All meetings are open to parents and are held in the staff room beginning at 7:00 p.m. You are welcome to just show up. If you wish to add an item to the school council agenda, please contact us at dundcent.sc@hwdsb.on.ca and we would be happy to add your item to our next agenda.
Volunteer Opportunities
Getting involved in the school community and being part of our children’s years at Dundas Central is a very rewarding experience. There are a number of ways to be of service:
Who? Parents, Guardians, Grandparents, Students, the Greater Dundas Community. High school students can find ways to make up their community hours.
School Volunteer
You can volunteer directly in a Classroom, Resource Centre or the Office. Primary grades are in particular need of in-class help, particularly during nutrition breaks to make sure that the children eat and helping them get dressed to go outside. School and class trips also require many supervisory hands!
You will need to have a police check completed before starting. Contact the staff directly. The office staff can always use an extra set of hands for photocopying, help with attendance, etc.
We recognize that everyone’s availability varies – if you have an evening to spare, there are also many jobs that can be done afterschool or at night (e.g., cut and labelling for primary classes).
Co-op students / Student Teachers
Our school works in partnership with area highschools, colleges and faculties of education to provide work placement opportunities. Dundas Central often hosts Student Teachers from Brock University’s Faculty of Education, and Student Educational Assistants from Mohawk College’s Education as well as other area schools. All adults working with students at Dundas Central have had vulnerable sector police checks and work with a mentor at the school. Our students benefit greatly by having these individuals at the school, and they benefit from the experience. It is truly a win-win situation!
