Who are we? What do we do?
We are parent volunteers & citizens that are involved in the home, school and community, to obtain the “Best for Each Student”. We spearhead extracurricular events, support the students & staff, enhance the student experience and help to make the school a real community. We are part of the Ontario Federation of Home & School Associations, OFHSA, an independent body giving us a united voice at the provincial level concerning student issues. See our detailed mission statement and objectives below.
Events
Some past events supported and/or run by Home & School include: Meet the Teacher Night BBQ, Remembrance Day Celebrations, Winter Clothes Closet, Holiday Baskets, Food & Toy Drive, Book Swap, Spring Dance, Staff Appreciation Lunch, Grade 8 Graduation Support and End of Year Picnic. Ongoing initiatives include the Food for Thought snack program, Spirit Wear, and Heritage Preservation. We also do fundraisers to support the School Wish List.
Fundraising
When necessary, we try to organize socially responsible fundraisers to support our various initiatives. We try our best to involve the students where appropriate. Some past fundraisers supported and run by Home & School include: QSP Magazines, Holiday Baskets, and the Spring Plant Sale. “DCPS Home & School” can provide a person or company with a tax receipt for any cash donations over $25, which can be directed towards a specific goal. We also have a perpetual “Grow for Green” program at Holland Park Garden Gallery, 3% of your purchase comes back to the school (Member # 627.3521).
School Wish List
The school budget covers the “basic needs” of the school. Each year the staff approaches H&S with a list of “would really loves.” In 2006-2007 we funded over $10,000 worth of items for the School Wish List, including the portable audiovisual equipment for the gym, scoreboards, clarinets, Forest of Reading library books, trip subsidies, Grade 8 graduation, kindergarten outdoor equipment and gym office renovations.
