May, 2012
Principal’s Message:

Welcome to May!!!! This will be a busy month as we get closer to the end of the school year. In celebration of Education Week, we will be hosting our Annual Open House on Thursday, May 10, 2012 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Harvey’s will be selling BBQ’d hamburgers, hotdogs, pop, juice and chips as usual. We will also be holding the Scholastic Book Fair in the gym during this Open House.  Parents of students new to JK next year have also been invited to a JK orientation session in the library from 6:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., where the kindergarten teachers will be available to share information about the program and answer any questions that parents may have.

Our grade 3 students will participate in the annual EQAO (Education Quality and Accountability Office) assessment beginning on May 23rd and ending on June 4th. Attendance and punctuality are critical during this period of time and we thank you in advance for accommodating that.

I would like to thank Dee Sperry and Jennifer McPherson for organizing and ordering the Spirit Wear. It has been delightful to see the students wearing it with pride!!! I would also like to thank Mme. Harper for organizing the “Pink ‘T’ Shirt” Day to raise awareness about bullying. A thank you also goes to Mme. Simpson, Ms. Jacobs, Mrs. Mendel, Mrs. Dransutavicius, Mme. Harper, Mme. Price, and Ms. Charters for their work and their students’ successes during the Earth Day Assembly. Thank you also to Nadine Sayliss for organizing the Barbara Burrows Presentation; it was a great success!

Character Trait of the Month

The Character Trait for May is: Integrity. Students will be learning about this trait as we progress through the month. Integrity: Consistency of actions, values, measures, principles, expectations, and outcomes; being honest, truthful and consistent with one’s actions. (Wikipedia.org).

General Information re: 2012/2013

We are in the process of planning for the 2012/2013 year. The school organization has been tentatively set and we will begin the process of forming classes. Teachers use their extensive knowledge and professional judgment when building classes considering many factors including gender, learning profiles, student characteristics, etc. Should you feel the need to contribute to this process, you may submit a written letter directed to myself that describes your child’s learning needs. Letters will be accepted the week of May 22 to 25, 2012. All letters will be taken into consideration, however, please remember that specific teacher requests cannot be guaranteed.

Safe Schools

We will be holding another “Lock Down” Drill and further Fire Drills this month. Please remind your child(ren) to be sure to follow the procedures and directions of their teachers as we go through these emergency procedures. Thank you.

Lost & Found

Once again, we will place the lost and found items in front hall outside the gym during the Spring BBQ. Please be sure to look the items over and take anything that belongs to your child(ren). Thank you.
